The powder coating process begins with a bare aluminum "mill finish" rim, suspended by steel hangers to a charged wire. Dry powder is sprayed onto the rim through an applicator gun which imparts an opposite charge to the powder particles. Once the powder is applied, the rim is transferred to an oven, where it is baked at high temperatures for an extended period of time. The once matte finish, loose powder particles are now permanently bonded to the rim and have gained a glossy luster through the curing process.
All
colors marked with an (E) are what we call "electric" colors. These
are candy powder coats that often appear more like an anodized finish
than a traditional powder coat. These shades will show through to the
metal so there may be small inconsistencies in the finish where the
grain of the aluminum can be seen.
